Not all hardwood flooring is made alike. Some brands go the extra mile to create incredibly beautiful and long-lasting flooring that’s truly unmatched. That’s what DuChateau solid and engineered hardwood strives to do. This brand has drawn inspiration from design, architecture, and even fashion to create what it promises to be high-quality flooring since 2007.

This brand has been installed in homes as well as commercial spaces including Whole Foods, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the Ritz Carlton. The company’s story is certainly interesting and appealing, but how does DuChateau really stand up when compared to other brands of solid and engineered hardwood flooring?

In this post, we’re going to look beyond just the promises made by the company. We’ve done our research and have read through customer reviews and complaints to give you the real deal about this brand of flooring.

Before you pull out your wallet and plunk down a pretty penny for new floors for your home or commercial space, read on to learn about the pros and cons of DuChateau flooring.

    Is DuChateau Flooring Durable?

Sure, the beauty of your flooring is important, but if it loses its shine and beauty just a short time after installation, why waste your money? You want to invest your money in flooring that looks beautiful year after year. Is DuChateau engineered and solid hardwood flooring products up to the task?

DuChateau solid and engineered hardwood flooring products have received overall favorable reviews. However, there are a few drawbacks. Some consumers have complained of slivers in the flooring, while others have stated that DuChateau’s flooring dents and chips easily.

People can expect this with hardwoods, though. Hardwood flooring, including the products sold by DuChateau, may chip or dent if you drop a heavy object on it.

Scratches may also be a problem. High heels, sand particles or other debris, or chair and furniture legs can cause those. However, there are some precautions that you can take to prevent this damage from occurring, which we’ll explore a little later in this post.

Although the damage that may occur is typical of hardwood flooring, some consumers weren’t happy that flooring at this price point was susceptible to the same type of damage as less expensive brands.

DuChateau does stand by the quality of its flooring with its warranties. Its Atelier Series hardwood flooring comes with a lifetime limited integrity warranty.

This series of flooring also comes with a 25-year residential and 3-year commercial surface finish warranty, which protects the finish from wearing provided it receives proper care and maintenance.

The same warranties also cover DuChateau’s engineered hard wax oil finished floors. A limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the flooring, a 25-year residential surface finish warranty, and a 3-year commercial surface finish limited warranty back every product.

    Is DuChateau Flooring Affordable?

If you’re like most consumers, you have a set budget for your new flooring. When compared to other brands of flooring, is DuChateau an affordable brand … or will it break the bank?

The average price of hardwood flooring varies based on the brand, wood species, and other factors. On the lower end, you may pay around $3 to $5 per square foot. For high-end brands and exotic species, expect to spend around $8 to $14 per square foot.

DuChateau flooring is priced on the higher end. On average, expect to pay around $9 to $11 per square foot for this flooring. For consumers looking for a bargain, stick with other brands or consider checking out DuChateau’s luxury vinyl plank flooring.

Can I Install DuChateau Flooring Myself?

Another big cost to consider when pricing out your flooring is the cost of professional installation. At a cost of $3 to $10 per square foot on average, professional installation can easily add thousands of dollars to your project costs. If you want to save money, you could install the flooring yourself, but does DuChateau make it easy for you to tackle this do-it-yourself project?

There are two methods for installing DuChateau flooring: glue-down installation and floating floor installation. One thing to note is that they only recommend you do floating floor installation for Atelier Series flooring. Glue-down installation works for any of the brand’s collections. You can use it on concrete and plywood subfloors.

Installing hardwood flooring is a pretty difficult and time-consuming task, but it’s not impossible for the average consumer to take on with the right tools, plenty of time, and step-by-step instructions. Fortunately, DuChateau provides the latter, offering up installation instructions with details for each of its flooring products.

There are many steps you will need to take to install your flooring properly. This includes prepping your subfloor, installing a moisture barrier, allowing the flooring to acclimate in the room in which you will install it, and cutting the planks as you need to.

You will need some tools and supplies to complete the job, including adhesive for glue-down installations, a power saw, and trim pieces.

While DuChateau makes it as easy as possible to install its products by providing instructions with details, installation can be a big job for someone with no experience. Installing the flooring incorrectly can not only damage the floors but can also void your warranty. In most cases, it’s best to hire a professional to take on this task.

Is DuChateau Flooring Available In Many Styles & Colors?

When picking out your new flooring, one of the most important factors to many consumers is whether there’s a product that complements their home or business. If you’re shopping for DuChateau hardwood flooring, will you have a wide variety to choose from? Luckily, there’s no shortage of options when it comes to this brand.

DuChateau has a variety of colors and styles to choose from. This brand offers a variety of colors in dark, medium, and light tones. The company was also a pioneer in bringing the wide-plank matte finish flooring that is popular in Europe to the United States.

DuChateau has planks in a variety of widths from 3 inches to 9.5 inches.  The company also has herringbone and patterned planks to create a floor look that’s truly your own.

How Do I Care For My New Flooring?

DuChateau makes caring for its floors easy by offering its own line of cleaning and care products. For daily hardwood cleaning, you can simply use a broom, dust mop, or even a vacuum designed for use on hardwood flooring.

For regular upkeep, use the Premium Floor Cleaner and Protectant. This product is safe for use around kids and pets and is environmentally-friendly.

To clean your floors, simply mix the solution with water and apply with a clean cloth or mop. It is important to never oversaturate your floors, as this can cause the wood to become damaged.

DuChateau also sells its Maintenance Oil. The purpose of this oil is to keep your hard wax oiled floors always looking their best. You apply this product in a thin layer to clean engineered hardwood floors (or solid) and must cure it for at least 12 hours. This product is resistant to water, beer, soda, coffee, and other liquids.

You can also take a few steps of your own to keep your floor looking its best. Remove shoes at outside entrances to prevent tracking in dirt and debris that could scratch your floors. You can also use leg protectors on your furniture and coasters under appliances, furniture, and other heavy items to prevent scratches and dents.

    Final Verdict

DuChateau solid and engineered hardwood flooring is available in so many styles and colors, it looks great in any home or business. It’s also easy to clean and maintain when you purchase the company’s products.

On the downside, though, this beauty comes at a cost. This flooring brand is on the more expensive side, so if you’re on a tight budget, consider other brands. Some consumers also weren’t happy that the flooring was still showing wear despite its high price tag.

DuChateau flooring, like other brands of hardwoods, is also difficult to install if you have no prior experience. This can add hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to your renovation project – not ideal if you’re looking for a more affordable hard flooring option.
